Description
The UBC-BBM Fish Collection (University of British Columbia, Beaty Biodiversity Museum, UBFC), was begun by Dr. C. McLean Fraser, the first head of UBC’s Department of Zoology in 1924. The earliest lot of specimens was collected in 1903, a sandlance from Japan. Dr. Murray A. Newman was the collection’s first curator, and Dr. Wilbur A. Clemens, G.V. Wilby, Dr. Casimir C. Lindsey, Dr. Norman J. Wilimovsky, and Dr. J. Donald McPhail each expanded the collections greatly over the decades. Eric B. Taylor is the current Director of the Fish Collection.
Data Records
The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 34,804 records.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.
Versions
The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Additional Metadata
Currently this dataset contains only the names that were assigned during the registration of the specimens. We are currently working to add the current valid name. Note: the current otherCatalogNumber corresponds to a collection event number. Thus, lots of specimens caught during the same collection event carries the same otherCatalogNumber. Two digits will be progressively added to differentiate all lots.
