Description
The Ouellet-Robert entomological collection (QMOR) is one of the larger Canadian university entomological collections and the second largest in Quebec. It comprises 1.5 million specimens, covering more than 20,000 species. Aquatic insects from many regions of the world are particularly well-represented. This dataset includes 38,295 digitized lots from the collection (192,000+ individuals), representing the orders Odonata, Trichoptera and Ephemeroptera.
Data Records
The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 50,944 records.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.
Versions
The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Taxonomic Coverage
This dataset includes all Odonata (25,500+) and Trichoptera (7,100+) specimens in the collection. Digitization has started for Ephemeroptera (5,500+ specimens so far), but most orders in the collection have not yet been digitized.

Sampling Methods
All data are manually digitized as text from specimen labels. No images were taken.
Study Extent | Digitization of the Odonata, Trichoptera and Ephemeroptera from the Ouellet-Robert entomological collection (QMOR). |
---|---|
Quality Control | No legacy data were present, so all data were entered using controlled vocabularies where relevant. All fields have been checked for inconsistencies. |
Method step description:
- Examine specimen and any attached/included labels.
- Create new record in collection database and populate fields with the information on the specimen label. Use controlled vocabularies where relevant. Determinations are recorded in a related table (included in this dataset as http://rs.gbif.org/extension/dwc/identification.xml), as are groups of individuals (e.g. 2 males, 1 female).
- Attach the newly generated specimen number to the physical specimen.
